Reporting an Absence

 If your child is going to be absent from school because of illness please either phone school on 213910 or alternatively e-mail on office@st-gabriels.staffs.sch.uk as early as possible on the morning of the first day of absence. Should your child’s absence run into another week, please ring/e-mail school again on the Monday morning of the new week.

If your child will be absent due to a medical appointment, please inform the school office as soon as you are aware of date/time etc.

First Day Contact

First day contact will be made with parents if a child is absent and the reason has not been communicated to school. This should in no way be considered to be intrusive or a nuisance, this is purely to ensure the safety and well-being of all our children.
Medication

 Wherever possible we would ask that you try to organise the timing of medication to avoid school times, but we appreciate that this is not always possible because of the amount of doses required. Should your child require medication to be administered in school, please download a medication form from the website, or alternatively collect one from the school office. This should then be completed and handed in to the office with your child's medication in the original container. We do have a fridge in the office where we can store antibiotics etc.

Leave of Absence Request Form

 Please note that ALL upcoming requests must be submitted as soon as possible, in advance and ideally at least 3 working weeks in advance. The correct forms are available from the school office or you may access a copy by clicking on the link below. Thank you.

Emergancy School Closure Procedure

A decision to close school is only taken as a last resort and after conversations between the Headteacher, the Chair of Governors and the Caretaker. In reaching a decision many factors are considered, such as;

  • Heating availability and temperature inside school
  • Condition of water pipes in school and availability of running water
  • Condition of the immediate local roads
  • Ensuring the playground and paving around school can have secure, clear pathways to allow safe movement
  • Ability of adequate staff numbers to reach school.
